Be very afraid when an American Idol contestant sings something from Barbara Streisand. This is tough to do well and usually a recipe for disaster. Very few can take on such an icon. But, Katharine McPhee pulled it off with her performance of “Since I Fell For You.” Actually, this song choice was right up her alley. I don’t think she can really do the screaming black diva thing, like everyone on the show tries to do, but she definitely can pull off the white girl singing the blues thing. Randy loved it and welcomed her to the dog pound. Paula seemed to think that Katharine’s performance was more about Paula. . Ok, not quite true. Paula agreed that the performance was great and that she would go all the way. Simon said that there were four very good vocalists tonight and she was the best. I don’t know about that, but she was great. And, she will definitely make it to the top 12.
