Nerves didn’t get the best of Kellie Pickler on the first elimination night. She pulled out a great performance of “How Far?” by Martina McBride. Okay, she was a little flat on the low register and the highest notes, but did anyone really care, especially after she basically dedicated the performance to her imprisoned father? She was obviously very happy with the performance, maybe that she got through it . . and the judges were pretty happy also. It had to be tough to follow such a powerhouse like Mandisa. Paula summed it up when she stated that Kellie has the likeability factor, she’s unpretentious, beautiful, doesn’t have the diva attitude and that she’s real. . . and these qualities will carry her through. Simon phrased it a little differently. . “You’re not a stage-school monster.” Love her.
