I was pleasantly surprised with Melissa McGhee’s performance of Faith Hill’s “When The Lights Go Down.” She started off a little weak (again, the low notes!), but she quickly recovered and started belting it out like they all need to. Don’t get me wrong, there was nothing subtle about her performance, and she was on the edge of her ability, but I like her raspy voice and love to root for the underdog. . . and believe me, she is an underdog in this competition right now. All that said, she’s got a lot of potential and she could be one of those sneaker finalists that comes up really fast. There’s no doubt that she was better than some of the “favorites.” Randy didn’t think it all came together but that she pulled it out by singing loud. Paula disagreed and thinks her sexy sultry voice is a stand-out and that she made the song her own and was amazing. Simon admitted that she has been overshadowed by some of the bigger personalities.
