Ace Young brought out the “comfort beanie” tonight along with some more falsetto. This time the falsetto worked for me. I guess he followed up on Paula’s advice to him last week to step a little further out onto the edge and trust that he can sing. I was a little blown away, actually. I thought he had given up the competition, but it looks like he’s getting his game back on. You may remember that very early on I predicted he would be the next American Idol. Since then, I’ve regretted that choice because over the last few weeks he hasn’t matured the way that someone else has. . . er, Chris Daughtry. But all bets are off, once again, after tonight’s performance. It was definitely remarkable. He still needs some more confidence, but he’s getting there. Randy thought it was hot. Paula said that he did it better than the original artist (Michael Jackson). Simon thought that Ace made it work but that the middle part went off for him. . i.e., the faggy falsetto thing. You know Simon can’t deal with his inner homo, so his judgement gets skewed when it comes to these things. The ladies will love that falsetto bit. Welcome back, Ace!
