Ace Young Still Doesn't Stand Out

Ace Young tried to do something a little different by singing “Drops of Jupiter” tonight on American Idol. I’ve never heard this song before . . . I guess I’m out of it. More iTunes is in store for me tonight. I thought it was ok. It still wasn’t that extraordinary something that I want to see Ace pull out but it was ok. I just don’t know about Ace. . I guess I should say I don’t know what I saw in him early on. . Maybe I need to rewatch some of those early episodes. I think the fundamental problem is that he’s trying to be something he’s not. I know that sounds funny, given that perhaps he is trying to be exactly who he really is, but I don’t think so. I think he has an idea of what his schtick should be, but it’s not working. Or, maybe he really is just bland. Randy thought it was completely the wrong song choice and that he didn’t sing it well. Paula said she wouldn’t be as harsh, but agreed it wasn’t the best song choice and then asked about his scar. Simon agreed with Randy that it wasn’t a great song choice and wasn’t a great vocal either, calling it the dreaded “karaoke.” Check out Ace Young’s “Drops of Jupiter”
