Kellie Pickler chose to sing “Blame It On The Sun” on tonight’s American Idol. She played it up in her video that she doesn’t know much about Stevie Wonder’s music and that her confidence level for this genre was pretty low. So with this, I guess we were not supposed to expect much. But let’s just unpack that statement. We’ve heard a lot of criticism that Kellie is really a bullshitter and that she is in no way as stupid and naive as she plays on tv. Granted most of the radio stations in her neck of the woods probably play country or right wing christian or political talk shows, but can we really be expected to believe that anyone can grow up in this country and not know at least something about Stevie Wonder and his music? Sounds a little weak to me. Her lack of confidence showed. There was very little feeling in her performance and she didn’t try to do anything fancy with the song. . more like just getting through it. I guess she couldn’t help but put some country into it. Maybe if she put a little more country into it, it would have been better. It was not good. That said, she looked beautiful and elegant. Randy didn’t like it and commented on her lack of personality. Paula said that it was too safe and she didn’t take any chances on the song – no razzle dazzle. Simon said everything went wrong. He thought it was very boring and that she went to Dolly Parton school with the outfit – safe, old, and boring, without question her worst performance so far. Yep. Simon got it right. But I’d say there’s no chance she’ll be leaving us this week.
