chose Marvin Gaye’s “Heard It Through The Grapevine” for tonight’s American Idol, citing his desire to just have a little fun.  I have to say that even if he’s not the best singer, he’s got a great sense of humor and he is playing up the nerdy chic thing.  You have to pay attention to his interview segment before the performance as he talks about becoming a sex symbol to 12 and 13 year old girls, capping it with a LOL wink and “Hey Ladies, How’s it going?” So after that, what can I say.  If you’ve been reading my posts, you know I don’t particularly like him as a singer.  His performance was ok, nothing I personally would pay to listen to, but he’s a cute curiosity.  The thing I wonder is how far he can go on his schtick?  I hope not to the because that would mean that someone else who is a better singer would be booted. . It’s clear he can have a career in comedy or television. . He’s kind of like a Doogie Howser for the New Millenium. Randy was kind of in hysterics.  He said the reason why we love Kevin is because he’s cute, he’s funny, and cool and he can sing. . basically, dog pound material.  Paula said he’s “infectious” and suggested he may be the next hottest sex symbol.  Simon had to be bring down the hammer saying that if he heard it on the radio he would turn it off.  As a singing competition, it wasn’t the greatest. True, true.  For Kevin, it’s not about the singing, it’s about the goofiness of it all.   Make sure you see Ryan’s hysterical separated at birth comment about Kevin. . .
