With Kevin’s comment about rapping in his interview segment, I was expecting him to bust out some rhymes mid-way through his rendition of “Starry, Starry Night.”  I think that would have been hot, but alas, Kevin played it straight all the way through. Regardless, it was a stroke of genius that Kevin chose this song. . . He sang it really well, especially the last half.  What was genius about it was that it was SO unexpected and definitely played to his strengths with the audience. What could the judges say?  Randy didn’t like the song, but acknowledged that Kevin can sing and it was a dog pound performance.  Paula went all squishy for him.  I was kind of waiting for Simon to bring down the hammer.  He likened it to watching puppies play and said that the grannies would love him.  In the same way that people don’t get Kevin’s gangsta side, Simon doesn’t get it when the American Idol kids act strategically. The gay innuendo between Simon and Seacrest was very funny, especially with Ryan responding “You wish” to Simon’s aside about Ryan having dreams about Simon at night.
