Melissa chose to sing Stevie Wonder’s “Lately.” She complained about having a strained voice and drinking down olive oil to make it feel better. You could definitely hear the strain in her voice early into the song. She may have missed some words or notes or something too. I don’t really think it was the best song choice for her voice. Not sure what Stevie song would be good for her but this was definitely not it. She looked fabulous, but didn’t seem very comfortable singing. It was a big song and her performance was just ok. Randy commented on her forgetting the lyrics, starting off flat and sharp, but that she ended it well and definitely has pipes. Paula said some nonsense about breath of fresh air and soothing voice. . I don’t know about that but it’s true her voice is unique in the competition. Simon thought it was her best performance so far this season . . . not perfect but edgey, contemporary, and very strong. I think he was going easy on her because he wants to see her further in the competition.
