Paris Bennet chose to sing “Fever” by Peggy Lee on the 50′s theme night on American Idol. Barry Manilow raved about Paris in the intro segment, saying that she has an enormous career ahead of her and has good instincts. With all of that, the expectations were reasonably high. She came out in a hot little, light-gold satin dress. She’s got a gazillion looks. But eventhough she looked great, I didn’t think she started that strong. It seemed a little old for her and I don’t think she carries the low range very well. It’s like she sounds flat and nasily down there. But when she went up into the high register, she really got comfortable and sounded great. So, I would say the first half was weak but the last half was pretty phenomenal. Randy thought it started weak also but by the middle of the song she started blowing it out of the box acknowledging that she is beyond her 17 years. Paula was a little speechless, but thought her vocals were impeccable. Simon said this is what she does best and that she has the perfect voice for that type of song and there was not much more he could say.
