chose Garth Brooke’s “Thunder Rolls” for tonight’s American Idol.  He said he chose it because Garth was one of the “first” at putting a little rock into country.  Well, that’s kinda cute. . but ultimately not very factual. Let’s see how it went. . .He started off pretty good, very clear.  No off notes, like most of the contestants.  You know he’s also been cleaning himself up a bit.  I have to say, he’s definitely going to appeal to a certain segment.  But he’s a little too Tom Waits for me.  Seriously, he was talking about not understanding the menus at the restaurants in LA. Well, I can barely understand a word that comes out of his mouth.  But, hey. . . Tom is the master of making random grumblings and groanings sound like words and even music. . and Bucky is following very well in this grand tradition.  It wasn’t as screamy, intense as last week but I think it was pretty good. Randy thought it was a great song choice. . . said he did his thing.  Paula thought he started it off really well and that he is finding his place in the competition.  Simon said that he like it and that he was very sincere, but that he comes across as the support act and not the star attraction.  I think Simon is right for now, but I think we’ll see that change as Bucky gains more confidence.
