Kellie Pickler chose “Bewitched, Bothered, and Bewildered” and it looked like it was going to be the perfect song choice for her. I think Rod Stewart was a little taken with her, like British often are with what they think are “odd curiosities.” You could actually see his thoughts when after all his platitudes, she said, “you took a weight off my CHEST.” She looked pretty good. She was trying to class it up with a fuschia dress and flowing hair and bangs. I think she sounded pretty good in the beginning, though it sounded like she missed some notes here and there through the middle and end. Thinking of what Simon had said about Elliott, I have to say that her performance lacked personality and emotional connection. She just sang it but with no feeling, like she didn’t know what the song was about. Of course, perhaps that’s not altogether unlikely. Randy said that she looked like she knew what he was going to say, to which she responded, “I butchered it.” Randy didn’t go that far, though he mentioned it was a little pitchy in the middle. He said that it was a difficult song to sing. Paula always looking toward the positive said that she looked exquisite and that she loved the beginning but that she got ahead of the music towards the end. Even still, she said she can’t wait to see Kellie’s acting career get going because the camera loves her. Kellie handled the criticism pretty well, saying, “When all else fails, you better have great shoes.” Simon said that it was a boring song and it felt that it didn’t suit her. . it wasn’t great.”
