chose to sing Whitney Houston’s “I Have Nothing.” She definitely has some spunk to try to take on such a big song from one of the all-time greats. This is the type of song that Simon usually says ‘karaoke” to. Let’s see how it went. First, she looked beautiful as ever. What I really like about Katharine is that she has a great range. Unlike some of the other female singers on American Idol, I don’t think she goes flat at the bottom or the top of her range. Her performance was pretty flawless. She changed the song up just enough to make it her own and she got HOT, HOT, HOT on the last half. I think she’s taken the title of “minx” away from Kellie Pickler for good! Randy said he was worried about this week because of the great love songs but in an attempt to “keep it real” he said that the song was too big for her, with all the runs and it didn’t come close to Whitney. Paula said there were pitch problems and that she fell flat on higher notes and added that she should stick to her money, which is intimate vocals, but that she is nonetheless a star. Simon said that choosing that song is like saying that you are as good as Whitney but that what Katharine said was that she is not. He thought it was cabaret and that Katharine took it backward from where Whitney had been with it. To all of this, the audience was shocked and dismayed. I guess I’ve got the McPheever, because this time, I agree with the audience. I don’t know what kind of crack Randy and Paula are on, but they got it WAY WRONG. Simon’s comments were to be expected. I guess the producers have told them that they have to be more critical now that we are getting to the last part of the show. . .Ratings, Ratings, Ratings.
