Hopefully, Taylor Hicks Will Sing That Song, Just Once

Taylor Hicks chose to sing “Just Once” by James Ingram on American Idol this week. He seemed to be getting kudos from the coaches with comments like “he has the most charisma” and “he has a beautiful instrument.” Of course, Andrea Bocelli said this about all the contestants. He started off weak and off-key on a couple of notes. He did the big parts of the song really well, but the “regular” parts of the song were just that. . . regular and bordering on not great. By the end he started throwing some of his own elemental style into it but over all I’d say it was one of his weaker performances of the season. Randy thought it sucked and that it was the wrong song for Taylor – weird karaoke. Paula said some randome nonsense but basically said she didn’t like it. Simon said that it was not a winning performance and that it was like what you’d hear in any lounge around the country. True, true.
