It’s getting harder and harder to watch American Idol on Wednesday nights. Now that there are only a handful of contests, most of whom are excellent and could win given the right song choice and performance, it seems like a tragedy each week when someone has to go. But the continuous race to the winner will leave a lot of road kill along the way. So, with this and over 45 million votes, America dumped Kellie Pickler off American Idol this week. Ryan split the 6 remaining contestants into three groups this week by order of votes. Group 1 Katharine McPhee Chris Daughtry Group 2 Elliott Yamin Taylor Hicks Group 3 Kellie Pickler Paris Bennett Taylor Hicks and Elliott Yamin were immediately told they were safe, although Ryan waited to tell us that they were actually the MIDDLE group until after the commercial break. All I can say is THANK YOU JESUS that neither Taylor or Elliott are in the top 2 spots. . . They’re fine but . . . whatever. Anyway, that left Katharine and Chris or Paris and Kellie as the top 2. Who would it be and who would be leaving? At this point, I honestly think it could have gone anywhere, especially since Chris was second to the bottom last week. But, I was hoping against hope that it would be Kellie Pickler, and given her terrible performances over the last few weeks and the reaction against her personality, why not? As luck would have it. . my hopes and dreams came true. Katharine and Chris were told that they had the highest votes, leaving Kellie Pickler and Paris Bennett in the bottom two positions sweating it out. Interestingly, the camera caught Taylor Hicks’ reaction to this news and it was not pretty. While Elliott was looking genuinely excited for Katharine and Chris, Taylor looked like he was shitting bricks. I guess he was as surprised as me to learn that he is not the golden boy he undoubtedly thought he was and is actually AVERAGE now that the long-shot Katharine is trampling him. I love it!!! She has come from nowhere to being a serious contender. So, long story short. . we learn that Kellie Pickler is sent home. THANK YOU, JESUS!!!! It was long past her time to go. America got it right tonight. Believe me, I won’t miss her. But given that she sucked the hardest of the remaining six, this means that next Wednesday truly will be a tragedy.
