So, finally after 4 uninteresting and repeat performances, the contestants sing something new for us. Each will sing their upcoming, original single. Run, don’t walk to your local Virgin store now! First up it was Katharine McPhee. But before the performance we are given a sweet little piece with Katharine and her parents talking about what a dream this is, brought to you by Coca Cola. Katharine came out looking drop dead gorgeous, singing “My Destiny.” How appropo. It’s a sentimental song and she started off quite nicely on the first few verses. That said, I’m not sure it’s the best that could be done for her. Maybe the song is too formulaic or maybe they are not paying their song writers enough. . I don’t know. Gospel choirs all over should be vomiting to see how shamelessly the producers drag out the black folk to try to make this song more interesting. Yuck. I’m going to have to watch it again to see if I’m just being cranky. . .She can do it in a studio but not live. Some of the big notes were simply outside of her range. I think she’s been hosed. She didn’t look happy at the end. Randy said he had three things for her. 1. You look amazing. 2. You sounded really good. and 3. I did not love the song but you sounded great. He thought the song was average and she was better than that. Paula said that she was brilliant but must have agreed about the song. Simon said she went from brilliant to quite good in one song. “You are a great, great potential artist and I am delighted that you are in this final and I would say to everyone who wants to vote for Kat to vote and remember the second song. I agree with the judges on this one. The song was not written for her. She’s been hosed. Next up was Taylor Hicks singing his new single track. . .”Do I Make You Proud?” After writing a disasterous song for Kat, would the producers pull it out for Taylor? His song was equally formulaic with lots of meaninglessly fluffy lyrics. . . basically it’s the same song that Kelly Clarkson sang in the first season. It was also not written for Taylor, though at least they gave Taylor a song with notes all within his range. It was so boring and not at all funky. It didn’t suit him at all. To his credit, he managed to make something out of it in the end though. Again, with the black gospel choir. God, I hate this show. I also wish Taylor would stop screaming soul patrol. . have a little class. And, what’s with those glances. . he was looking pretty cold and calculating to me. Randy said that it was a slightly better song than Kat’s but that he knows how to make any song his own. Paula agreed. . saying Taylor was better than that song but that he added his own special sauce like a pro. Simon said that assuming he was right that the show was tied prior to the performance, then Taylor just won American Idol. Taylor obviously loved this, but given what he said to Kat, could Simon be setting Taylor up? He put out a call to Kat fans to vote and basically told Taylor fans that there’s nothing to worry about. Cheeky devil. I hate to say it but Taylor will probably win and probably should win at this point. What a joke this show has been this year. Taylor seems like a sweet guy and I would mind seeing him perform in a bar somewhere. . but give me a break. He is an accomplished amateur. . who doesn’t have much room for growth.

Anyone notice last night how they never once said it was close? In years pasts you heard non-stop from Seacrest that “The vote was only a few percentage points off…” anyone think Daughtry and Yamin yelling “Soul Patrol” on Tuesday night sent all their fans to the Taylor Hicks side and he blew her out of the water? I think it’s incredibly likely. Fox new what they were doing, they put cameras on Yamin and Daughtry when Taylor was performing and they went nuts… reports on the radio shows yesterday also said that Paris was seen holding a Soul Patrol sign, but it wasn’t shown on TV.
katbrat is clearly just in love with Katharine McPhee. Why else would he have so many fantasies about her being a prostitute and performing all kinds of tawdry acts with him? I’ll bet he has Kat photos all over his bedroom so that he can “think” about her at night, alone in his room, naked under the covers. . .

I don’t think Taylor sucks at all. He won because he doesn’t suck AND he makes GREAT TV!!! He didn’t win because he was the best or has the most potential as a successful recording artist. . . That said, I like his pre-Idol covers better than his Idol stuff. . . You should check them out in the audio video or listen sections. Once he gets out from the Idol format, maybe he can parlay his newfound fame into something more original and compelling.
He can entertain with cover songs like nobody’s business. I’ll grant him that. It is yet to be determined whether he can pull off original music.

In a strange way, doesn’t Taylor Hicks remind of one of your Dad’s younger friends. You know that one guy from the neighbor who would come around and you could never figure out how old he was.
He looks like the type of guy who works as a night manager at a Ralph’s grocery store or bowling alley. I can’t see young people running out to buy his CDs.

Let’s face it, you are all pissed off because you thought Katharine had the better voice, but apparently more thought that Taylor was the better choice and that is why he won.
