Elliott Yamin Believes To His Soul. . ???

Elliott Yamin chose to sing “I Believe To My Soul ” by Ray Charles as his last song choice for tonight’s American Idol. He came out funky in a white pin-striped blazer. Given the first two song choices, I don’t think it was the best. It was, however, pretty standard Elliott style. . with lots of runs and funky vocal inflections throughout the song. Sometimes, I think Elliott over complicates his performances and it makes it harder for a wider audience to appreciate them. He’s obviously incredibly talented, but sometimes it’s overkill. . like Randy says so often. . just sing it straight. Of course, if they don’t like it then they criticize you for not being original. . Whatever. Randy said it wasn’t the best song choice but that Elliott can sing anything. . so it was good. Paula agreed with Randy about the song choice but that the thing with Elliott is that no one else can sing songs like that, ripping all over the place. Simon said plainly that his songs are not going to carry him through to next week, but that he is a great guy, a great singer, and whatever happens he will make his mom very proud for what he has achieved in the competition. While I agree with Simon, I hate that he actually said this, because this is the type of thing that will get Elliott’s fans to the phone in a pity vote and kick my girl Katharine right out!!
