Holy Crap! Simon Chooses "Somewhere Over The Rainbow" For Katharine McPhee!

All I can say is, “Holy Crap!” Simon Cowell chose “Somewhere Over The Rainbow” for Katharine McPhee to sing on American Idol. I had to pause the DVR as soon as I heard this and try to imagine how this is going to go. It could be amazing or it could be DISASTEROUS! What was Simon thinking? Katharine seemed to think it was a great idea when it was announced by her home-town Mayor at her home-coming, saying “Gosh, what a great song!” Ryan wondered too. Simon said that he knew from the very first day that he met Katharine that this song is likely “the most perfect song in the world for her and tonight she could have the moment that we’ve been waiting for with this.” Katharine started off very dramatically underneath a single spot and sitting spread-leg on the floor. What was the killer was that she started singing the first bar of the song, which no one really knows, but was incredible nonetheless. This was crucial because it made people pay attention and appreciate her skill. But as it turned out, the first bar was NOTHING compared to what was in store. She had to take out her earpiece for some reason after the first bar. I’m sure we’ll find out later what happened. Anyway, mid-way through I realized Simon was right. This would be her moment. It was the perfect song choice. It was gripping, beautiful, crystal clear, original, stunning, nothing short of phenomenal. This song has never been performed so wonderfully since Judy Garland did it herself oh so many years ago. Thank you, Jesus, for Simon Cowell! He did her a huge favor!! This is why we love Simon, even when we hate him. The audience was blown away. Randy said “finally, finally. . this is what I’ve been waiting for. . this is the best vocal OF THE SEASON. . for you. . America! We have a hot one tonight!” Paula gave her a standing ovation and agreed and said, “soak in this moment, because your element and your magic is when you don’t go overboard and you tap into your beautiful and your natural self. Bravo.” Simon said that he was very happy for her tonight because it proves the point he has said before, she does not need to lay it on too much because she has a very special talent, and not just because he chose the song, but that her performance was the single best performance of the competition to date. He’s right. It was. It was perfection. She’s my girl. . . She’s also her daddy’s girl. . He’s one ugly mug, but he is so proud of his girl. It brings tears to my eyes.
