Randy Jackson chose “You Are So Beautiful” by Joe Cocker for Taylor Hicks to sing on tonight’s American Idol. Maybe this could be Taylor’s “Somewhere Over The Rainbow?” It seemed like the perfect choice for Taylor. Taylor started off slow, sweet and soft, pandering to his fans. He looked thoughtful and pensive. No herky jerky dancing on this song, you can count on that. He was in his zone and feeling every note. I have to admit that I was impressed by his high note run in the middle of the song. It was quietly intense, which is I think what he was going for and it will certainly get people to the phone. Randy said it was a great, tender moment from Taylor and that he did the song proud. Paula said that not only did he look like a star but that he performed it like a star. Simon said that it was by far and away his best perforrmance so far this season. Taylor was expecting the worst and was clearly relieved by Simon’s words. And, shocker. . Simon clapped for Randy’s song choice.

Taylor will put out several Number one songs in the future. All he has to do is sing the right songs and connect with the right people. The rest of the ground work has already been layed for him in his early years, and now exposure to over 60 million people.
My wife and I both voted for him. I felt it in my bones when we first heard him, that he would go all the way on American Idol. I said he had that Ray Charles and Otis Redding soul in him before it was even mentioned that these were his idols.
All he needs now is someone to write him some good songs (I think he just may write some himself) I went to school with Mac Davis in Lubbock, Texas. He and I use to do organize the talent contests at school every Friday. Mac, as you know wrote songs for Bobby Goldsboro as well as Elvis, then made a big hit for himself with “Baby, Baby don’t get hooked on me”
I know Mac Davis, and I’d say Taylor has got more talent and wins the hearts of the people when they first see and hear him.
I wish him all the success in the world.
