Katharine McPhee chose to sing a medley of Elvis songs on American Idol tonight, a mix between “Hound Dog” and “All Shook Up.” Tommy Mattola is hot for her. . Given his history with chick singers. . . I’d watch out for some combo of this later down the road. Katharine came out in a very playful spirit. She was jumping around so much that I think she lost her breath and then she definitely lost her words. It was not one of her best performances but it was fun. I loved when she threw her head back at the final note of the song. Randy said she had fun but asked her what happened in the middle. Paula thought it was a nice move to spin around when she lost the words to help cover it up. Simon said that it looked like a desperate, manic audition for some theatrical performance somewhere across the country. . . I can sing, I can dance, manic. He said he hoped that she had a better second song. I agree. But, I think the fun factor will carry her through.
