Taylor Hicks chose “Jailhouse Rock” as his first song on tonight’s American Idol. This is the perfect type of music for Taylor Hicks. . He can come out and jump around and act stupid. He’s great at it and his fans will love it. I thought it was a very good performance. Definitely better than your average Las Vegas Elvis impersonator. . . but I hate that crap. You have to appreciate his zeal and sense of humor. . Randy thought it rocked and he was in his element. Paula said he was as original as ever. Simon said that “in the real world” it was a terrible impersonation of Elvis. . everything was bad and it was Karaoke with a capital K. This was a predicable critique from Simon. And, he’s right about it all but it wasn’t a terrible impersonation. . it was actually a terrific impersonation. . but an impersonation nonetheless.
