Taylor Hicks chose to sing “Try A Little Tenderness” as his last song on tonight’s American Idol. Before he even starts, and while I have the DVR on pause, I just have to say that he choice of song was brilliant. . the perfect song for him and his style and to end the night with to get his “Soul Patrol” to the phone, . . . BUT. . . seriously, this is the most cliched, obvious, and karaoke sort of song EVER!!! That, of course, will not matter to his fans, and thus I can’t fault him too much. Besides, without even hearing him yet, I can tell you honestly that he loves this song and loves performing it. Who can fault him for that? Taylor is exactly who he presents himself to be. This is why so many people LOVE HIM and why others, like myself, appreciate his talent, but pray to GOD that he doesn’t win. All that said, let’s listen: Thankfully, he started off with some originality. . singing the song softly and not funkily at all. It was a nice beginning. . Then, he kicked up the funk a notch and went with the original style of the song and did his herky jerky chicken dance and it sounded great and it was a fun performance and everybody loved it. Randy said he had a new name for Taylor which would be “have a good time funky Taylor.” Paula said that she originally had chosen this song for Taylor and then she found out that he had chosen it for himself and she had been waiting all season for him to sing this and that he did an incredible job. Ok, so here comes Simon. What would he say? I’m sure you can guess. “Taylor, smart song choice, good performance, a hideous ending, but I’ll see you next Tuesday.”

This was like my absolute FAVORITE performance by him, besides “A Little Thing Called Love” and “You Are So Beautiful”..that one brought tears to my eyes. YEA SOUL PATROL!!I LOVE YOU TAYLOR!!!
