This is a quick list starting about midway through the show: Sundance – Sings amazing with an adorable and cute personality. Simon’s approval. Sean Michel – Bryant, Arkansas – Sings pretty good, but guaranteed to get a makeover. Fidel Castro or Che Guevara cannot be the American Idol. Melinda Doolittle – Brentwood, Tennessee – brilliant singer, cute personality, positioned as the under-dog backup singer who needs self confidence – think Effie White before she became a diva. Notable quote from Simon Cowell – “We have a lot of people who come in here with a lot of attitude, a lot of confidence and they’re not very good. You walk in with no confidence, no attitude, and yet you are a brilliant singer, a brilliant singer, seriously. . . You are what it’s all about, a great voice. I’m concerned about your lack confidence, the fact that you’ve been in the background, but let me tell you, you are in the top 2% of good singers this year, a million percent yes.” Phil Stacy – You knew he was making it when they gave him all that face time about the missing the baby’s birth for the American Idol audition, etc. He’s sings ok but it’s true that he has trouble starting the whiny songs.
