has a lot to offer this competition. He’s not your typical American Idol contestant with his look and his style, but he’s got a great voice, a killer sense of humor, and an interesting schtick that should work pretty well for him. I think he picked a great song for himself. His voice was right on and he got into the performance. I’m not sure I would see him as the next Idol, but I could definitely see him performing in a college scene. He’s definitely got a good alternative sound. Randy thought he was rushing a bit and he loved it. Paula said his song choice strategy was great and so what if he was ahead of the chorus a bit. Simon agreed that his humor got him to this point, adding that he likes him and that Chris is a great personality. . and then. . to my amazement. . said that he thought he was at a “student gig,” which is exactly what I was thinking but I don’t think that’s a bad thing. . . Chris commented that just because he doesn’t sing “teletubbies” that it doesn’t mean that he can’t sing. Simon felt he had to comment on Chris’s weight saying that Chris could always sing the latter. BTW – Note to Ryan: stop with the veiled homo-phobia. . .2 comments already tonight. And, somehow that set off Simon, though all the business about Ryan making it “uncomfortable” was just part of the performance. . Simon wasn’t quite serious, I think. Maybe they just need to do the “deed” and get beyond it.
