Blake Lewis chose to sing Jamiroquai’s “Virtual Insanity” on this week’s American Idol. If nothing else, you have to appreciate his willingness to sing hip but slightly off-beat songs that may not translate very well on American Idol. I have to say that I didn’t care for his stupid hat, but he is a cutie, so I guess he can get away with it. He does seem to like the green and grey color combination. . . He dedicated the performance to his parents (so sweet). It’s a tough song to pull off live. The first part was good enough, but then he started scatting and that pulled it up a bit and made it more exciting. By the end, it was sounding pretty professional. He pulled out some Mr. Roboto moves too, so you have to appreciate that! Randy said it was so good to see Blake return to form and said it was just cool and it was a high degree of difficulty. Paula said he was making the right choices and that he is unique in the competition. Simon, of course, disagreed. He thought it was a bit of a mess, a little copy cat and out of tune in parts, adding that he was very disappointed. Not sure what I think. . It was very difficult. . . the judges had a bit of a row. . it was all pretty funny.
