Stephanie Edwards Is Dangerous

Stephanie Edwards dedicated her performance on American Idol this week to her mother and father for pushing her to audition in Memphis. I usually really like Stephanie but she chose to sing “Dangerously In Love” by Beyonce and I don’t think very many people can effectively take on a Beyonce song and make it their own. The problem is almost nobody is as hot as Beyonce and she has such a unique singing style. Her songs are hard to adapt to a different style. That said, Stephanie sang it incredibly well. Her tone was smooth and she hit all the notes as far as I can tell, and generally sounded professional and believable. The last big notes were nothing short of amazing. But at the end of the day. . eventhough it was a great performance, it was still Beyonce’s song. She thought she did very well, and she did. . . but. . Randy said that she looked hot, proved that she deserved to be up there and was so much better than last week but it was too “Beyonce-like.” Paula noted the audience silence and said that it indicated that they disagreed with what he said. Paula said that it was brilliant and beautiful and that it is hard to do something from Beyonce. Simon agreed with Paula and said it was a terrific performance.
