Blake Lewis chose to sing Mack The Knife on Tony Bennett big band week. He sounded great except for the very end of the song when he did a little scatty run. He got drowned out by the band on that but it was a solid performance. He was his usual cute, trying hard to be hip, self. He didn’t go way over board in turning the song upside down, but he managed to put his flair into it. Randy thought it was cool despite a couple of pitch problems. Paula said that he personified “pizazz” and that he was a hip cat and just. . . “cool.” Simon said it was a good song choice and a good performance but that he was overshadowed by the band. I’m just a little bored. First of all, it’s just a weird song. I don’t know why it ever got so popular since the pop expression of it makes no sense when you listen to the words, which of course are extremely dark. . .
