Well, there’s a lot of controversy brewing over Joanna Pacitti since she has actually had a fairly broad career in entertainment prior to auditioning for American Idol.
Apparently, she’s already put out an album on Geffen Records, though it didn’t sell well, and one of her songs has been covered by Britney Spears. She’s sung on a few movie soundtracks, including Legally Blonde (I think) and also was signed by A&M Records, though that supposedly “ended badly.”
Do you think she’s too professional to compete on American Idol? Let us know your thoughts.

When Britney Spears is covering an A.I. contestant and not the other way around, yeah, I’d say maybe she shouldn’t have been picked. And she’s on the soundtrack of Legally Blonde, a movie that passed the $100 million blockbuster mark.
But most of all I think this could backfire. She toured in the revival of “Annie” and was set to star when it went back on Broadway but became sick with bronchitis, two weeks later was replaced. Big big controversy. Mom sued for $50 million in potential future lost income due to this loss of opportunity. It was settled out of court. But I’m just saying. A.I. better be careful in taking any opportunity away from her.
She totally deserves another chance. What opportunities she has had never worked out and from what I’ve read and after seeing her audition on AI – its apparent that it was not her fault. I don’t know how anyone can say she already made it when 99% of American, including myself, has never heard of her before. She has a beautiful voice and I think it would be great to hear more from her. I also give her mad props for not giving up. That is something we should be applauding her for instead bashing her. As far as this movie making a lot of money, I bet if we dug into this further we would find out she hardly made anything for that song. Best of Luck to her!
tough call, but i think she’s too far advanced for the show! She has already been a professional, and has toured with Nick Lachey as well!
Well either way, if you go to the American Idol site now she’s no longer listed as a Top 36 contestant. So I guess that’s that.
I’m against it, personally. Kelly Clarkson was a waitress; David Cook was a bartender (whose music career was completely independent and on his own) and so on and so forth. It just cheapens the deal when you get “Oh, and I toured with this big name, and was signed with that big name…and here I am for American Idol!
Whatever! Kelly Clarkson, had several deals before she went to the show, and Carly had a deal before the show. MANY of the past idols had already had quite a bit of success in this business just like her.
She also guest starred on “What I Like About You” with Amanda Bynes. This seems a little big to then be going out for American Idol. They rightfully kicked her off the show.
Just heard of this great singer, and didn’t know about her controversy.
Sure, she’s had record deals, but if the rules state that you only cannot have a current record deal then she hasn’t broken the rules. As far as ineligible from the two producers, it sounds like a Simon Cowell excuse for “oops we made a mistake”
I’m sure Simon Cowell is a very nice gentleman, but his “brutally honest” demeanor is an on-camera act. The knowing people in the industry shouldn’t be grounds for dismissal as I bet quite a few has connections.
Maybe American Idol should consider changing the rules as they seem to want to not play favorites, well then that has to happen with EVERY contestant.
