Melinda Doolittle Has Found A Home on American Idol
Thank god for Melinda Doolittle. After Brandon Rogers’ messy performance, Melinda Doolittle brightened up the stage. But, first let’s just talk about the intro where Melinda was complaining about her high heels, which prompted Ryan to ask Simon to provide advice about the high heels, to which Simon replied, “You should know, Ryan.” Ryan not to be out done fired back, “Stay out of my closet,” to which Simon shot back, “Come out!” Keeping the train going. . Ryan added “this is about the top 12, not your wishes.” Melinda found it all very funny. . as did I! It was so perfect, I have to think it was scripted.
Melinda chose to sing “Home” from The Wiz. The thing about Melinda is that every song she sings, she feels and she telegraphs that and it brings the listener in to the performance and makes the performance so much more believable. She really is a super performer.
It started off smooth and sweet and by the middle she was firing on all cylinders. . .It was a brilliant, huge performance. She’s so beyond most of the other contestants. After the last huge note, the crowd went wild, standing “o” and Melinda actually looked surprised by their reaction, which prompted her to immediately start shedding tears. Paula was also a mess, but we’ll get to her in a second.
Randy said it may not have been his favorite performance of hers but it was really strong. Paula could barely talk, and not from being drunk. I will quote it because paraphrasing won’t do it justice. “Melinda, just watching you, I just, I feel what you’re, you’re just feeling so much joy from, and it’s exciting I feel I’m one big goose bump and I’m just so excited for you because look at you, this is it for you, this is it for you, you’re so (motion out of this world).” Simon found this all so hysterical and then asked why Melinda was crying to which she responded, “I’ve never anything like that before (about me).” Simon summed it up by saying that she made a boring song fantastic and said that she reminded him of a young Gladys Knight.
It’s all about Melinda and Lakisha.
