dedicated “Mustang Sally” to his son Levi and got a little choked up talking about how much he missed him. He came out did a pretty inspired performance. It sounded good and you could tell he was feeling it, especially with the screaming banshy part. Randy said that he dropped a bomb tonight and said that he proved the reason he was here. Paula said she was blown away by his range and thought it was the best vocal they ever heard. Simon said that he was glad that the Sundance that they liked was back, but added that he thought he could do a lot better, even though it was great. Check out singing “Mustang Sally:”

Keeping the grandma dedication alive, Chris Richardson chose to sing “Geek In The Pink” on this week’s American Idol. He came out all cool and stuff and he did a pretty good job. . It seemed like a really difficult song to sing. . . I was getting dizzy trying to keep up with the words. . . It was good. Randy said that Chris was in it to win it, saying it was hotter than the original. Paula loved it and said that he must have dedicated it to Simon as she stuck a pink heart on his shoulder . . get it? Geek in the pink? Simon said that they knew he was a contestant to watch and that for him, Chris was the best of the night by a mile. Check out Chris Richardson singing “Geek In The Pink:”

chose to sing Cyndi Lauper’s “Time After Time” on this week’s American Idol. He dedicated it to his grandmother. It was well sung but a bit slow for me. Randy said he liked the sentiment for Brandon’s grandmother but that the song didn’t showcase his talent and that it was basically boring. Brandon commented that he was trying to telegraph his feeling on the song and so he was actually going for the quiet subtle heartfelt thing. (I don’t think he really did feel the song though). Paula disagreed and said she felt his heart and that he has a beautiful voice. Simon brought it back to a singing competition saying that he loves grandmas but that he needed to come out as talented as he is and that he needs to come out and wow the audience. Paula was put off. chose to sing Jamiroquai’s “Virtual Insanity” on this week’s American Idol. If nothing else, you have to appreciate his willingness to sing hip but slightly off-beat songs that may not translate very well on American Idol. I have to say that I didn’t care for his stupid hat, but he is a cutie, so I guess he can get away with it. He does seem to like the green and grey color combination. . . He dedicated the performance to his parents (so sweet). It’s a tough song to pull off live. The first part was good enough, but then he started scatting and that pulled it up a bit and made it more exciting. By the end, it was sounding pretty professional. He pulled out some Mr. Roboto moves too, so you have to appreciate that! Randy said it was so good to see Blake return to form and said it was just cool and it was a high degree of difficulty. Paula said he was making the right choices and that he is unique in the competition. Simon, of course, disagreed. He thought it was a bit of a mess, a little copy cat and out of tune in parts, adding that he was very disappointed. Not sure what I think. . It was very difficult. . . the judges had a bit of a row. . it was all pretty funny.

chose to sing “Fever” on this week’s American Idol, dedicating it to his girlfriend. Did you notice how much they look alike? Same nose and everything. He came out and sounded smooth, mellow and confident. I was wondering if he would be able to pull of the more “feverish” part of the song. He’s definitely a good singer. . I guess the boys took the heavy criticism from last week to heart because most of them were doing good this week. He brought a little cool funkiness to the song toward the end and even had Simon snapping to the beat. . . But, ultimately it just wasn’t a very big song like everyone seems to want out of an Idol performance. Randy agreed that everyone so far had come back and done much better than last week. He thought it was nice and was happy that he brought back the smoky sensibility. Paula like it but told him to let go because he has nothing to worry about. Simon said it was good but he lacked charisma on the song and should work on his style.
